Space, Time & Everything 1 When we talk of spatial dimensions, we often talk of them as if they are separate concepts in their own right. Draw a line. Yep, that’s one dimension. Now draw a square. Yeah, that’s two dimensions. Build a cube from the paper. Wow, that’s three dimensions. Then people start talking about the possibility of a fourth dimension, perhaps even more. I have the utmost respect for Stephen as one of our greatest ever scientists, but my immediate response on hearing, or seeing, those words was to ask, ‘How can we ever know the answer to everything before we know what everything is?’ Now, there are lots of interpretations of the meaning of ‘everything’ simply depending on what we’re talking about—
